Colour Chameleon

64 per cent of British women, 61 per cent of US women, and 55 per cent of French women colour their hair. They clearly understand there’s no better way to reinvent yourself than a colour change. Whether its covering greys, experimenting with pastels, or discovering whether blondes really do have more fun, today’s sophisticated technology means there aren’t many shades that are out of the realm of possibility. The only downside to your new do, are the effects dye can have on your hair and scalp. Fear not, simply read the expert tips below to discover how best to look after your locks post colouring.

Preserve

Give your new shade time to ‘set’ by waiting at least two days’ post colouring before shampooing. When you do shampoo use lukewarm or cold water as hot water will open the hair cuticle causing the colour to leech out. Be sure to use a colour protecting cleanser like Kerluxe Luminage Shampoo, £38. Specially designed to combat the damaging effects of chemical treatments like colouring, it’s formulated with a unique complex of powerful active ingredients including Hyaluronic Acid, Phytoceramides and Marine Collagen. These fortify scalp health, and provide an antioxidant shield to reduce colour fade, protect against further damage, as well as hydrate and support the process of hair regeneration from scalp-to-tip.

Protect

Protect your hair from further damage by avoiding heat styling tools such as blow-dryers, straightening irons and curling tongs. Heat strips the hair of its natural oils and proteins and can exacerbate the damage already caused to the hair shaft and scalp by colouring. Experiment with new styles that don’t require heat, but if you don’t have time to let your mane air dry use your dryer on a cool setting and hold it at least 15cm away from your hair.

Condition

Dryness and dehydration are common place when colouring ones hair, so take steps to pump much needed moisture back into your tresses. A weekly deep conditioning mask is a must. Try the transformative Kerluxe Caviar4 Hair Mask, £49, as it delivers a dose of intense nourishment to dry and damaged hair. It does this by way of the nourishing oils and repairing antioxidants present. Sealing them into the hair shaft, to improve the rate of moisture retention and the over all strength of each strand.
